We would like to welcome you to the City of Plymouth community! Moving can be a very stressful endeavor. In an attempt to make your transition easier we have compiled a few quick facts and links for new residents. Our website is a great resource for gathering information on the many events and services that the City of Plymouth has to offer. Community Events and Information Alerts

  • The City of Plymouth serves as the location for a number of free community festivals and concerts that take place throughout the year, which we invite you to attend.
  • The festival season begins in January with the Plymouth Ice Festival. In July you can enjoy the widely attended Art in the Park festival. In September the season continues with the Fall Festival. In October come out and enjoy Pumpkin Palooza.
  • Throughout the summer Friday Nights Music in the Air Concerts take place at Kellogg Park, featuring a variety of musical acts and genres for free.
  • Also, throughout the summer, Music in the Park Concerts take place at Kellogg Park for children. These musical concerts are held on Wednesday at Noon and are free of charge.
  • During the months of June and July the Plymouth Community Band performs for free on Thursday nights at Kellogg Park.
  • Every Saturday morning from May through October is a Farmer's Market located at the Plymouth Gathering

Register to Vote

  • It is important to register to vote with the City of Plymouth. As a new member of the community you will want to ensure that your voice is heard at the ballot box on issues such as electing the City Commission or School Board.

Commission Meetings

  • The City of Plymouth welcomes citizen engagement and invites you to attend City Commission meetings that take place on the first and third Monday of every month.
  • Complete meeting agendas, as well as minutes and videos of past meetings, are posted the Friday before a meeting and can be found here.

Taxes and Water Bill

Trash and Recycling Collection

  • Garbage is collected weekly through our automated cart system. This service is provided for $10 a month and is shown as a line item on your water bill. Please contact the Department of Municipal Services to receive your cart.
  • Recycling is picked up, on the same day as garbage, on a weekly basis. Each household will receive one recycling bin. You may purchase additional or replacement recycling bins for a cost of $15 from the Department of Municipal Service. Please click here for a full list of acceptable materials.
  • All large and/or odd items need a special refuse tag, which can be purchased at the Department of Municipal Services.
  • A brush chipping service is provided once a month for all city residents. This is at no additional cost to residents and is used as a way to dispose of a few limbs that residents have trimmed from their yard. Please consult the website for further specifications and an exact schedule for your residence.
  • Bulk leaf collection is provided at no additional cost to all residents. This allows for residents in the fall to rake leaves to the curb for crews to collect for composting.
  • Compost materials may be placed in a 32-gallon container marked "compost only" or Kraft-type brown paper bags specifically used for yard waste and placed out for pick up with your trash and recycling.
  • Spring Clean Up is the annual collection day where residents can dispose of extra items and especially large items at no additional cost.

Parks and Recreation - Cultural Center - Ice Arena

  • Your new home has numerous parks for you and your family's enjoyment. A guide to the parks can be found here.
  • The Recreation Department offers a number of leagues and activities for both children and adults. These include soccer, hockey, t-ball, and many more activities. For a current list of leagues and programs please go here.
  • The City of Plymouth Cultural Center offers facilities for your: business meetings, civic clubs, wedding receptions, showers, and other special events. Please contact us to find out more about reserving space or other uses at the Cultural Center.

Code of Ordinances

  • As a new property owner you also have a responsibility to maintain your home and comply with the City Code of Ordinances. Any questions regarding code violations can be directed here.

False Alarms

  • Homes and businesses that are equipped with alarms are subject to fines after the first two false alarms.
  • You will receive notification regarding when alarms have occurred and, if needed, a bill.
  • Alarms shall be considered non-chargeable if they occur during severe weather, during maintenance by licensed service personnel, and conditions due to disruption of service from communication systems.

On-Street Parking

  • There is no parking on any city street, between the hours of 3:00 a.m.and 6:00 a.m., except for Sundays and holidays.
  • If you have a need to park overnight for a short term (a week or less) you may call 734-453-8600 and be put on a temporary overnight on-street parking list.
  • In those instances where there is no other available parking (apartment, no driveway, too many vehicles) you may fill out a Yearly Parking Permit application and submit it to the police department for review. If approved, there is a $25 fee and the permit is valid from July 1 - June 30.

Skateboarding

  • Skateboarding in the downtown area is prohibited. Violators will be subject to ticketing and confiscation of skateboards.
  • Permission is required for skateboarding on private property. Permission is required to be expressed in writing and in possession of the skateboarder to be presented to a Police Officer upon request.

Dog Licensing

  • Canine community members older than four months are required to have a dog license and owner information on file at City Hall, which needs to be renewed annually.
  • Please be courteous and be sure to keep your dog on a leash while in public, as well as to clean up after them.
