City Ordinance and Secretary of Interior Standards

The Historic District Commission uses the City Ordinance and Secretary of Interior Standards for Rehabilitation to review each application.  Applicants are encouraged to familiarize themselves with each of these documents and align their application to the requirements.

Work that Requires Approval

Exterior work that is planned for properties within the Historic District boundaries requires Commission approval prior to being completed.  This includes new construction, additions, porch repair or reconstruction, new or replacement signage and awnings, replacement roofing materials, replacement siding, replacement windows, replacement doors, new or replacement lighting, new or replacement landscaping, and paint color changes.  If you have questions about if a proposed project will require approval, please contact the Community Development office directly.

Application

The Historic District Commission meets once a month on the first Wednesday of the month.  The deadline to be on the agenda is the third Monday of the month before the meeting date.

Historic District Study

The downtown area was studied in 1994.  The resulting district was established the same year.
